Madison Square Gardens in New York will host the Boxing Super Welterweight WBA World Championship between Antonio Margarito and Miguel Cotto on the 3rd of December 2011. As always before such an epic fight, the private lives of two fighters are placed under intense scrutiny.
As far as Antonio Margarito’s private life goes, he is married to Michelle Margarito and lives in the town of Tijuana, which is in Baja California. Interestingly enough, his wife Michelle Margarito is the sister of Hanzel Martinez. Hanzel Martinez is a professional boxer himself, so far undefeated. Luckily for Antonio Margarito’s wife, there is no chance of the two ever meeting in the boxing ring, as they are in different categories. Martinez is a Bantamweight, whereas Margarito is a Welterweight.
Antonio Margarito’s wife clearly has to be made out of some very special material, to be able to witness both her husband and her brother putting their lives on the line time and again in the boxing ring. Both are professional boxers, meaning that their fights include high stakes and opponents are fierce. Every fight could be Margarito’s last, of course, as health concerns for all professional boxers are severe and very serious. Brain injuries are common, as are fractures and other problems, and these can mean the end of a life, or the end of a career.
Being the wife of a boxer is a hard job. Much less glamorous than being the wife of a football player, someone like Michelle Margarito has to witness both her husband and her brother being physically attacked and put in danger for the viewing pleasure of others, without reaping the financial benefits that the wives of famous football players have. Of course, Antonio Margarito has a sizeable net worth, but this is just pocket money compared to some big football players out there.
Tune in for a boxing live stream and you can watch Michelle Margarito cheering for her husband in the stands at the Madison Square Garden.
